Kerr-Vance Academy is 2-8 against Rocky Mount Academy since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Spartans will host the Eagles at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Kerr-Vance Academy came up short against Pungo Christian Academy and fell 9-5.
Thomas Wilson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Academy never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Harrells Christian Academy. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 12 runs or more this season.
Seth Tickel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rocky Mount Academy is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Tickel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Creech-Jones, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Rocky Mount Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Gehrig Miller, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Rocky Mount Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Rocky Mount Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Kerr-Vance Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kerr-Vance Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mount Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Kerr-Vance Academy might still be hurting after the 18-1 defeat they got from Rocky Mount Academy when the teams last played back in March. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
