The Aurora Central Catholic Chargers and the Waubonsie Valley Warriors will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Aurora Central Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
Last Thursday, Aurora Central Catholic didn't have too much trouble with Yorkville Christian at home as they won 67-51. Given Aurora Central Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Yorkville Christian is ranked 525th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Waubonsie Valley put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They breezed by West Aurora at home to the tune of 82-44. Waubonsie Valley's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Waubonsie Valley's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Hannah Laub, who scored 19 points along with five steals and three blocks, and Danyella Mporokoso, who scored 30 points. Mporokoso continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Pereda, who scored 11 points.
Aurora Central Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Waubonsie Valley, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-2.
