Basketball Recap: Washington School for the Deaf Piles Up the Points Against Utah School for the Deaf & Blind

Washington School for the Deaf was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Utah School for the Deaf & Blind on Saturday. The Washington School for the Deaf Terriers blew past the Utah School for the Deaf & Blind Eagles, posting a 47-17 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Terriers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 365th in Washington, while the Eagles are ranked 143rd in Utah).

Washington School for the Deaf's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Omar Barragan-Lopez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 boards. Those 20 rebounds gave Barragan-Lopez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Yerkes, who posted 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Washington School for the Deaf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Washington School for the Deaf has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.7 points. As for Utah School for the Deaf & Blind, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Washington School for the Deaf will head out on the road to take on Three Rivers Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Utah School for the Deaf & Blind, they will host Mount Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Utah School for the Deaf & Blind is facing Mount Vernon at the right time seeing as Mount Vernon is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
