Daviess County is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Jasper is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will welcome the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Daviess County 1.6, Jasper 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Friday, Daviess County got the win against Castle by a conclusive 13-1. Considering the Panthers have won eight matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Kylie Clark, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Danielle Beckwith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Daviess County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Castle only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Jasper ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Evansville Reitz 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since May 21, 2024.
Jasper saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Barrix, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another was Ayla Elkins, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.
Daviess County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Jasper, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Daviess County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Jasper struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Daviess County took their win against Jasper when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 14-3 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
