After a string of five wins, the Manchester Valley Mavericks's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 58-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Winters Mill. Manchester Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Winters Mill apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Manchester Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carter Strohman, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Brendan Luddy, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Winters Mill had a senior duo take command as Sam Wivell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds and Owen Case scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Wivell pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Hinkhaus, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Manchester Valley's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. As for Winters Mill, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Manchester Valley will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty is on a four-game streak of home wins, Manchester Valley a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Winters Mill will take on Francis Scott Key at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Francis Scott Key is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
