The Merritt Island Mustangs's game on Tuesday was all tied up 28-28 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Satellite. While losing is never fun, Merritt Island can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 514th, while the Scorpions are ranked 216th).
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braeden Rouleau, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Hudson Blank, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Satellite's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Otero, who scored 21 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Knight, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Merritt Island's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Satellite, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merritt Island won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Terriers at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Titusville is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Satellite, they will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Merritt Island has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three matchups.
