Basketball Recap: Wharton Falls Despite Big Games from Keilon Jackson and Jameir Hearne-Robinson

Wharton entered their game against La Marque on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wharton Tigers might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the La Marque Cougars an easy 54-31 win. The matchup was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Tigers struggled afterwards.

Wharton's loss came despite strong showings from Jameir Hearne-Robinson and Keilon Jackson. Hearne-Robinson posted 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Jackson went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Hearne-Robinson a new career-high in blocks (two).

Wharton's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-5. As for La Marque, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.

Wharton and La Marque should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Wharton (ranked 556th) will meet Columbia (ranked 1123rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wharton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, La Marque (ranked 83rd) will meet Needville (ranked 909th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
