The Monroe Golden Tornadoes entered their tilt with the Terrell County Greenwave with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Monroe took down Terrell County 73-55 on Saturday. Given Monroe's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Terrell County is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Justin Burns was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaquan Maddox, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Terrell County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shaheed Huckaby, who scored 13 points. Cordarius Perry was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Monroe pushed their record up to 11-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.67 points. As for Terrell County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe will take on Crisp County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Crisp County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. Terrell County and Calhoun County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Calhoun County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Terrell County likes a good challenge.
