5A Region 4 recap October 22, 2013
Lone Peak was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fifth to third in 5A Region 4. The Knights beat Westlake 34-15 earlier in the week.
Lehi fell to Herriman 42-17 last week, the largest margin of any game. Caden Calton was a bright spot for the Pioneers, as he ran for 144 yards and caught 4 passes for 24 yards in the loss.
American Fork's dynamic duo of Tanner Smith and Lopini (Zach) Katoa proved tough for Pleasant Grove to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns and Katoa had 159 yards receiving. Jonah Trinnaman helped American Fork's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 52 yards.
Brandon Farmer was a force in the backfield as the Mustangs defeated Lehi.
He went 25-47 with 3 interceptions.
Brennan Cox made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cavemen fell to the Vikings. The 6-foot-0 junior grabbed 1 interception.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Pleasant Grove's Jeremiah Evans and Spencer Romney have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Evans has thrown for 1,965 yards this season, while Romney has 30 catches for 736 yards. Calton from David Hastings' team leads the league in rushing with 1,838 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Les Hamilton's team and Herriman. The Vikings enters the contest ranked ninth in the state, while Dustin Pearce's team ranks 11th.
Going into this week's game against the Mustangs, Pleasant Grove's Evans needs 35 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
Herriman made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 750 from 960. The improvement was the result of a 42-17 victory over the Pioneers last week.
