Softball Recap: Colbert Heights Wins Going Away Against Independence

Colbert Heights picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Independence Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 15 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Addison Holcomb and Cadence Kennedy made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Holcomb pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kennedy tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last six games. At the plate, Holcomb went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Kennedy went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, McKenzie Gann was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs. Autumn Willis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Colbert Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Colbert Heights' win bumped their record up to 25-9. As for Independence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-14.

Colbert Heights didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 6-3 victory against Hatton on the 19th. As for Independence, they are taking a road trip to square off against Spring Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
