The Highland Huskies came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 53-40 win over Brush. Given Highland's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Beetdiggers are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Highland was led to victory by Mary Jones and Briza Flores. Jones dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Flores almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Jones is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Samaya Huntington was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds.
Michelle Headley and Jocelynn Middlemist certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Headley scored eight points along with 18 rebounds and two steals, while Middlemist dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Headley hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for nine straight games.
Highland pushed their record up to 11-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Brush, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Highland has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Reds at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Brush, they will head out on the road to square off against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
