The Gross Catholic Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Lincoln Christian Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gross Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Lincoln Christian will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Gross Catholic extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Cougars came out on top against Douglas County West by a score of 6-2. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by exactly four runs.
Luke Janovich tossed a big game, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gross Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Legner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Christian got the win against Auburn on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-1. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Caleb DeWitt was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. DeWitt was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ian Brester was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant DeHaan, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Lincoln Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn only posted an OBP of .158.
The win made it two in a row for Lincoln Christian and bumps their season record up to 7-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Gross Catholic, their record now sits at 10-3.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gross Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Lincoln Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gross Catholic skirted past Lincoln Christian 3-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
