Hollins and Northeast are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. Hollins will head out to take on Northeast at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hollins has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 7th.
Hollins came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Seminole by a score of 4-2 on Friday.
Hollins saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley McDonald, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Justin Stiles was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northeast, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Boca Ciega on Friday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Cameron Hasson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Northeast's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 4-2 (and 5-6 when he doesn't).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Weldon, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Densa, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Northeast now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Hollins, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Hollins' speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. Hollins has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Northeast, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hollins continue to outrun the ball?
Hollins came up short against Northeast when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Can Hollins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
