Monday just wasn't the day for Owosso's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clio on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Trojans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Hailie Caswell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
Meanwhile, Goodrich faced Lake Fenton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Martians fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 8-7. The Martians' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Goodrich also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Abby Stefanski gave up three earned (and four unearned) runs on 13 hits. Stefanski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sophie Swanson and Jayden Gohs did some serious damage despite the final result: Swanson went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run, while Gohs got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Alisyn Raether was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Owosso's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Goodrich, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Owosso hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Goodrich struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
