Two dominant guards in Kendall Banks and Naislyvia Pringle are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Alcovy Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jonesboro Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alcovy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
Last Friday, Alcovy was able to grind out a solid victory over Morrow, taking the game 55-47.
Alcovy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Banks, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Banks has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Minah Little, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Jonesboro's five-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They came out on top against Mundy's Mill by a score of 39-31. The win was just what Jonesboro needed coming off of a 52-17 defeat in their prior contest.
Jonesboro found their leader in underclassman Alona Dukes, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Alcovy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Jonesboro, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Alcovy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Jonesboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Alcovy came up short against Jonesboro when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 62-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jonesboro's Brianna Mason, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
