Baseball Recap: Elmwood Wins Going Away Against Leipsic

After only one run in their last contest, Elmwood made sure to put some runs up on the board against Leipsic on Wednesday. The Royals were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Vikings. Considering the Royals have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Zackery Gross made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Gross was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Bradford, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Landon Snow, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Elmwood pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Leipsic, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elmwood will challenge Archbold at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Leipsic, they will face off against North Baltimore at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
