In what's become a running theme this season, the Village Vikings gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They put the hurt on Incarnate Word with a sharp 56-31 win. Given Village's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Incarnate Word is ranked 693rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Village's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shaniya Williams, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mila Rossini, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Incarnate Word lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aralynn Esquivel, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Ella De la garza, who scored 12 points.
Village is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-11 record this season. As for Incarnate Word, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-18.
Village will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Concordia Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Village focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday. As for Incarnate Word, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Agnes Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
