There's no place like home for the Whitmer Panthers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-54 victory over Brush on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Whitmer's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Brush is ranked 28th).
Whitmer had a senior duo take command as Mackenzie Royal-davis scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks and Jada Shoup scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Royal-davis has scored at least 25% of Whitmer's points. Another player making a difference was Bralynne Dunn, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Whitmer's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Brush, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-1.
Whitmer will head out on the road to face off against Southview at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Southview is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Brush, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alliance at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Alliance is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
