The Emerson Mavericks pushed their score all the way to 35 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 36-35 to Lake Dallas. It was the first time this season that Emerson let down their fans at home.
Emerson's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Michael Hawkins, who threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 passes. Izzy Bills was another key contributor, gaining 128 total yards and a touchdown.
Lake Dallas had a senior duo take command as Keonde Henry picked up 77 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Cade Bortnem threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Dylan Brauchle and his 90 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Lake Dallas' win.
Emerson's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Lake Dallas, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Independence the next time they take the field. Lake Dallas will host Independence on Friday, while Emerson will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on November 2nd.
