Red Springs extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 6-7. They came up short against the St. Pauls Bulldogs, falling 24-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Devils have suffered against the Bulldogs since April 11, 2023.
Terry Locklear was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
As for St. Pauls, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On St. Pauls' side, Cameron Mcneill made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Mcneill has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jabryan Calhoun, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for St. Pauls: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Malachi Locklear was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Red Springs and St. Pauls will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Red Devils see the field they'll take on West Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on the 14th. As for St. Pauls, their break will end when they face Westover at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
