This season hasn't been kind to the Purchase Line Red Dragons, who are still winless after their fourth match. They had to suffer through a rough 66-33 loss at the hands of Portage. Purchase Line has not had much luck with Portage recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Purchase Line saw an underclassman step up: Stephen Perruso scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Purchase Line struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Portage pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Owen Gouse, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Trae Kargo, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and five steals.
Purchase Line's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4. As for Portage, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purchase Line will take on Harmony Area at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Harmony Area is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50 points per game. As for Portage, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Penns Manor at 7:15 p.m. Hopefully Penns Manor focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday.
