After a string of four wins, the South Point Red Raiders's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 76-66 to Huss. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
South Point lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Christian Petty, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Petty hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Graham Williams, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Huss' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zamarius 'Z-Man' Gladden led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gladden has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trimell Dunlap, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
South Point's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6. As for Huss, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
South Point will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Crest at 7:30 p.m. Crest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully South Point likes a good challenge. Huss won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Butler at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. Butler presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Huss in North Carolina (Butler is ranked 102nd, while Huss is ranked 257th).
