North Sanpete is 0-10 against Grantsville since March of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Hawks will take on the Cowboys at 10:00 a.m. North Sanpete is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
North Sanpete is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They never let Carbon get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
The result came thanks to Shea Rawlinson's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mylee Cook, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Rylee Stewart, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grantsville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Judge Memorial Catholic on Saturday as they made off with a 16-0 win. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matches by six runs or more this season.
Payten Bytheway made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bytheway was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Eden Ressel was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. SaDee Castagno was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Grantsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Judge Memorial Catholic only posted an OBP of .100.
Grantsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Sanpete, they pushed their record up to 16-11 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Sanpete hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Grantsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Sanpete couldn't quite finish off Grantsville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
