After flying high against the Ash Fork Spartans last Saturday, El Capitan/Centennial Academy came back down to earth. El Capitan/Centennial Academy took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Violet Barlow, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Barlow is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Crider, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, El Capitan/Centennial Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milford only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Tayleah Spaulding, who scored 35 points along with two steals for Milford. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spaulding has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiley Fisher, who scored seven points along with three blocks.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-8 record this season. As for Milford, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against the Antelopes at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Seligman comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Milford, they will head out on the road to take on the Thunderbirds at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Piute's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Tigers have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
