Baseball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Sumrall's 13th in Last 14 Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sumrall walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Poplarville Hornets on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Leo Odom and Braelyn Harrison did most of the damage at the plate: Odom went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Harrison went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Harrison has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Will Raner, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Sumrall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Poplarville, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-9.

Sumrall will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hornets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
