The Mountainside Mavericks are taking a road trip to face off against the Glencoe Crimson Tide at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountainside is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
While Mountainside didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Sandy a 5-0 shutout on Monday. The Mavericks' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

Jojo Appling made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Skylar Hins looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mountainside let Ainsley Arbow and Aubri Kruhm run wild. Arbow scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Kruhm went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Kruhm a new career-high.
Mountainside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Sunset typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Glencoe proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Apollos. Surprisingly, this marked the sixth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Not much got past Lexi Brester, who gave up just five hits to keep Sunset off the board. Those hits marked the first that Brester allowed this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Allison Glaze, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Irene Vandyke was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double.
Mountainside's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Glencoe, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Mountainside couldn't quite get it done against Glencoe in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
