Softball Recap: Folsom's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Folsom had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Monterey Trail Mustangs. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Erica Bennett tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Folsom saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shay Sacay, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Devyn Huber also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The victory got Folsom back to even at 12-12-2. As for Monterey Trail, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-18.

Looking ahead, Folsom will square off against Oak Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Monterey Trail does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
