Softball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Makes It 11 in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Mater Dei Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Otay Ranch Mustangs a 6-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Crusaders have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Arri Romero, who gave up just a hit to keep Otay Ranch off the board. Romero has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maya Matthies was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna 'Gigi' Flores, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Mater Dei Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Otay Ranch only posted a batting average of .045.

Mater Dei Catholic's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Otay Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11-1.

As of now, neither Mater Dei Catholic nor the Mustangs have any future games scheduled.
