Oak Lawn is 8-2 against Evergreen Park since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Oak Lawn sitting on three straight wins and Evergreen Park on four.
On Saturday, Oak Lawn earned a 7-3 victory over Lincoln Park.
Zack Ullrich was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.
Ullrich wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was John Olejniczak, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Evergreen Park hadn't done well against Tinley Park recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mustangs won by a run and slipped past the Titans 2-1.
Evergreen Park also got a great performance from Michael Rodriguez as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Rodriguez a new career-high.
Oak Lawn pushed their record up to 16-11 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Evergreen Park, their win bumped their record up to 19-8.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oak Lawn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Evergreen Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Oak Lawn's way against Evergreen Park in their previous meeting back in April, as Oak Lawn made off with an 11-2 victory. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
