Having just played yesterday, the Denver Jewish Day Tigers will get right back to it and host the Denver Waldorf Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Denver Jewish Day will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Denver Jewish Day scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 81-64 victory over Lyons. Given Denver Jewish Day's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Lyons is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Solly Bielsky and Keenan Winnerman were among the main playmakers for Denver Jewish Day as the former scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five assists and the latter scored 36 points along with five blocks and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Winnerman has scored all season. Lev Friedman was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Denver Waldorf's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. The contest between Denver Waldorf and Belleview Christian wasn't particularly close, with Denver Waldorf falling 72-53. Denver Waldorf found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 12 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite their defeat, Denver Waldorf saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cayden Quinn, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Quinn is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Henry Lottridge, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Denver Waldorf struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Denver Jewish Day's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Denver Waldorf, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-1.
Wednesday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Denver Jewish Day have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Denver Waldorf struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Denver Jewish Day against Denver Waldorf in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 68-21 victory. Will Denver Jewish Day repeat their success, or does Denver Waldorf have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
