Softball Recap: Highlands' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Highlands was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Freeport on Tuesday. The Golden Rams' pitcher stepped up to hand the Yellowjackets a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Golden Rams, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Madison Gorney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Mallory Zendarski and Gabby Chambers did most of the damage at the plate: Zendarski went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Chambers went 1-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Chambers has posted since back in March. Makenzie George was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Highlands was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Highlands moved to 6-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Freeport, they dropped their record down to 3-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
