Basketball Recap: Minden Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Minden put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Elm Creek Buffaloes with a sharp 71-50 victory. The Whippets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Minden got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mattie Kamery out in front who went 9 for 16 on her way to 20 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Kamery has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Myla Emery, who went 6 of 10 en route to 20 points along with six boards and five assists.

Minden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Elm Creek still got an impressive performance from Ashley Bauer, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 22 points. With that strong performance, Bauer is now averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendal Cavenee, who posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Minden's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Elm Creek, they moved to 5-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Minden will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Beatrice at 5:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Elm Creek, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-28 victory against Bertrand on the 20th.
