Lake City is a perfect 10-0 against Sandpoint since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 3:00 p.m. Lake City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Sandpoint will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Lake City extended their winning streak to three last Thursday. The Timberwolves were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over Moscow. Considering the Timberwolves have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Layla Gugino and Alexandria Routon did most of the damage at the plate: Gugino got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Routon got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Gugino has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was KaeLee Kolden, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Lake City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sandpoint came up short against Coeur d'Alene last Thursday and fell 7-3. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Lake City's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Sandpoint, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Sandpoint's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. It's a different story for Sandpoint, though, as they've only averaged .171. Will they be able to contain Lake City's hitters?
Lake City took their victory against Sandpoint when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
