The Highland Huskies pushed their score all the way to 71 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Mount Academy 75-71. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 426th, while Mount Academy is ranked 138th).
Mount Academy was led to victory by Jake Maendel and Dennis Hofer. Maendel scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Hofer scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Hofer hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. Bruce Maendel was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Highland and nudges their season record down to 3-4. As for Mount Academy, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland on the road again on Friday and play against Ellenville at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Mount Academy, they will take on Millbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Millbrook's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
