Myers Park has gone a perfect 7-0 against Berry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mustangs will face off against the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Myers Park barely beat South Mecklenburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Sabres on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Berry hadn't done well against Olympic recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 20-2 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Cardinals, who have now won four games in a row.
Aiden Lowery made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Berry is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 7-10 otherwise. Lowery was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alonzo Parsons, Iii, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Berry is undefeated when Parsons, Iii posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Davis, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Berry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Myers Park has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Berry, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11.
Myers Park took their victory against Berry in their previous meeting on April 8th by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
