5A Region II District 9 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Pearce moved up to 536 from 567 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 9. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by losing to Skyline 57-14.
Pearce's dynamic duo of Rhett Svetgoff and Ryan Stanton proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Svetgoff threw for 182 yards and Stanton had 48 yards receiving. Trey Vinzant helped Pearce's passing attack out by catching three balls for 43 yards.
Calvin Jones was the most productive running back in the league this week. In seven carries, he ran for 103 yards as Berkner lost to Skyline. William Clark also contributed to the rushing game with 90 yards on the ground.
Pearce's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mustangs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Svetgoff has thrown for 890 yards and five touchdowns this season, while J.r. Griffin has 33 catches for 413 yards. Griffin leads the league in rushing with 408 yards.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Dallas Jesuit and Lake Highlands meet this week. The Rangers features well-regarded senior Jake Oliver while the Wildcats has Kent Perkins, a sought after senior.
A big matchup in 5A Region II District 9 this week will be when Dallas Jesuit takes on Lake Highlands. At the moment, Brandon Hickman's team is in second, while Scott Smith's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Rams and the Mustangs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Berkner comes in having scored 157 this season, while Pearce has scored 184. Jim Ledford's team scored 50 points last week as it topped Sunset.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Rangers take on the Wildcats. Dallas Jesuit has allowed 120 points this season, while Lake Highlands has given up 126. The Rangers allowed 7 points last week as they beat White.
The Mustangs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,429 from 5,753. The advance stemmed from a 57-14 victory over Pearce last week.
