The New Hartford Spartans will square off against the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Hartford has three straight victories, Saratoga Springs has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
New Hartford proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 13) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Rome Free Academy, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted against the Black Knights since May 19, 2022.
Ruby Gehringer made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Gehringer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Glenn, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Norah Galiulo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Saratoga Springs' offense. They fell just short of Shenendehowa by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Blue Streaks have suffered since June 7, 2024.
Saratoga Springs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Taber, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
New Hartford now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Saratoga Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
