If the Grasso Tech Eagles were feeling good off their 76-28 takedown of the Bolton Bulldogs on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Grasso Tech had to suffer through a rough 68-32 loss at the hands of East Lyme. While losing is never fun, Grasso Tech can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while East Lyme is ranked 48th).
When it comes to explaining why Grasso Tech lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Charis Johnson. Despite the final result, he scored ten points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Johnson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amais Thompson, who scored six points.
Grasso Tech struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as East Lyme racked up 19 assists.
East Lyme's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oliver Hibbard, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Michael Timpano was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Grasso Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for East Lyme, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Grasso Tech will head out on the road to face off against Harvard Ellis Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Lyme, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against St. Bernard at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in St. Bernard's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
