Greene County is 1-9 against Sumrall since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Greene County Wildcats duke it out with Sumrall Bobcats at 11:00 a.m. Greene County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Greene County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Richton with a sharp 17-5 win. Considering the Wildcats have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Cole Helton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Brody Jones was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Herring, who scored four runs while going 2-for-5.
Greene County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richton only posted an OBP of .308.
Meanwhile, Sumrall waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wildcats 10-8.
Like Greene County, Sumrall also got a great game from a two-way player: Jack Miller. On the mound, Miller pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Leo Odom struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February. At bat, Miller went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Odom scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Sumrall got a big performance out of Braelyn Harrison, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Will Raner, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Greene County pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sumrall, their record now sits at 12-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greene County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sumrall struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greene County might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Sumrall in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Greene County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
