Clearwater and Countryside are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Tornadoes will square off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clearwater 4, Countryside 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Clearwater is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against Blake as they made off with a 9-0 win. Considering the Tornadoes have won ten matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Ty Woodring, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Blake off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson King, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Clearwater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Countryside hadn't done well against Northeast recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 8-4.
Chase Hilldreth and Brody Sadlowski did most of the damage at the plate: Hilldreth went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Sadlowski went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Hilldreth a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent King, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Countryside pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Clearwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Countryside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clearwater has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. It's a different story for Countryside, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Clearwater's hitters?
Clearwater came up short against Countryside when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 5-1. Can the Tornadoes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
