The Oxford Yellow Jackets lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 66-38 loss at the hands of Spring Garden. While losing is never fun, Oxford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Panthers are ranked 14th).
Oxford's loss came despite strong showings from Ava Thomas and Xaionna Whitfield. Thomas scored eight points along with seven rebounds, while Whitfield scored 18 points.
Oxford dropped their record down to 14-13 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Spring Garden, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 26-1.
Oxford's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Spring Garden does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
