The Oneida Express put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 50-45 win over Rome Free Academy. Given Oneida's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Rome Free Academy is ranked 157th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Rome Free Academy saw an underclassman step up: Azmira Moncoeur dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Moncoeur also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Ferebee, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Oneida pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Rome Free Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Oneida will be playing in front of their home fans against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Rome Free Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against New Hartford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
