Willow Canyon is 8-2 against Centennial since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. Willow Canyon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Centennial is facing Willow Canyon at the wrong time: Willow Canyon suffered their first home loss of the season on Friday and they're likely out for redemption. They came up short against the Jaguars, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.
Willow Canyon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Easton Spriggs, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Centennial got themselves on the board against Kellis on Thursday, but Kellis never followed suit. They blew past the Cougars 16-0. The Coyotes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Riley Moncrieff looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordynn McClain was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Stephanie Olivas-Marrufo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kellis only managed six hits.
Centennial has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Willow Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Willow Canyon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Willow Canyon's way against Centennial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Willow Canyon made off with a 9-0 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Coyotes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
