Dunmore is 0-10 against Holy Cross since May of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Bucks will head out on the road to challenge the Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. Dunmore is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Tuesday, Dunmore got the win against Western Wayne by a conclusive 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Bucks, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Rachel Walsh and Paige Ancherani made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Walsh pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Ancherani didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Walsh went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Ancherani went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Dunmore let Emily McGowan and Jackie Brown run wild. McGowan went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Brown went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most doubles McGowan has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Peyton Ancherani, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Dunmore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Holy Cross' offense. They lost 10-0 to Bristol on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Crusaders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Dunmore's record is now 13-5. As for Holy Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-3.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dunmore has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Holy Cross struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dunmore couldn't quite get it done against Holy Cross in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 5-0. Can the Bucks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
