After three lead changes,
Treutlen (Soperton, Ga.) took the lead for good when
Mathew Powell thew a touchdown to
Kyle Rosen with under a minute left in the fifth quarter and held on to defeat
Savannah Country Day (Savannah, Ga.) 31-25 on Saturday.
After trailing 12-10 at the half, the Hornets went ahead on a two-point conversion with less than a minute remaining in the fourth.
Treutlen expanded its lead to eight points entering the fourth quarter. THS scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Powell.
Powell stood out for the Soperton school in the win. He threw three touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns.
McMath made a difference for Savannah Country Day. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 27-16 win for the Vikings.
The win was a nice bounce back for Treutlen, which lost to Calvary Day last week, 27-19.
In a A Region 3A game next week Savannah Country Day (1-3) takes on Calvary Day, and Treutlen (2-2) will go up against Montgomery County in a A Region 3B game.
