Softball Game Preview: Charleston Trojans vs. Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs

Charleston is 8-2 against Mahomet-Seymour since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Trojans will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Charleston has five straight wins, Mahomet-Seymour has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Charleston proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Champaign Central 5-3.

Railyn Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rylee Shrader was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Mahomet-Seymour came up short against Normal University on Thursday, falling 11-5.

Maddie Logsdon and Brooklyn Dyer stepped up to the plate in a big way. Logsdon went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Dyer went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Charleston pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mahomet-Seymour, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Everything went Charleston's way against Mahomet-Seymour in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Charleston made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
