Even though the Eastern Mennonite Flames have not done well against the Virginia Episcopal School Bishops recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Eastern Mennonite walked away with a 68-58 victory over Virginia Episcopal School. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Eastern Mennonite was led to victory by Drew Hatter and Prodigy L simms. Hatter scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, while L simms scored 29 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points L simms has scored all season. Another player making a difference was William Gardner, who scored 12 points.
Virginia Episcopal School's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Billy Koudelka, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Koudelka has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times he's played. Lukas Buinevicius was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Virginia Episcopal School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Mennonite only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Eastern Mennonite is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Virginia Episcopal School, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern Mennonite will take on Rockbridge County at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Rockbridge County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Eastern Mennonite is ranked 46th). As for Virginia Episcopal School, they will head out on the road to face off against Glass at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
