Tucumcari has gone a perfect 6-0 against Pecos recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rattlers are taking a road trip to face off against the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Tucumcari lost 16-10 to Estancia on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Rattlers in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost eight in a row.
Maaja Anaya and Cambree Benevidez did some serious damage despite the final result: Anaya went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Benevidez went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Hayley Naranjo, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Pecos came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Longhorns get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Aubrie Lujan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Pecos got a massive performance out of Arlanni Gabaldon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Gabaldon is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Danielle Teran also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Pecos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Tucumcari now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Pecos, their record is now 16-5.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tucumcari has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .588. However, it's not like Pecos struggles in that department as they've averaged .579. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Tucumcari's way against Pecos when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Tucumcari made off with a 20-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rattlers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
