The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will head out to square off against the Valley Center Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Carmel will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Mt. Carmel had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Escondido on Friday. The Sundevils were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Cougars. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Sundevils considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Mt. Carmel let Kaili Martha and Clara Carter run wild. Martha went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Carter went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Martha has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Grimaud, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Mt. Carmel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Valley Center hadn't beaten Fallbrook on the road since May 19, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Jaguars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Warriors.
Winter Molina made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Molina was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Su'La Devers was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Autumn Wageman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Valley Center's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-15. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Mt. Carmel, their record is now 12-9.
Mt. Carmel beat Valley Center 6-3 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sundevils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
