It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Pieper Warriors had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Sam Houston at home to the tune of 33-0. The win was familiar territory for Pieper who now have nine in a row.
Jake South got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns. South has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. John Hamilton was another key contributor, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sam Houston to a paltry 71 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Pieper's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. In that department, Hyrum McCarter was the leader with three sacks.
Pieper has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 11-1 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.4 points per game. As for Sam Houston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Pieper will face off against Mission Veterans Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission Veterans Memorial is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Sam Houston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
